The Chester's Mystique is Born
This was my second Zero show and I am so happy to hear it again after so many years. This sounds as crispy as one could ever hope. The band comes out sizzling hot, with that loose, funky, psychedelic sound which came to be their signature at this cozy, Fayetteville vortex.
Among the first set highlights are a ferocious "Tear Tags" opener and an exploratory "Berm." Bobby is at his absolute best throughout this whole show. The same can be said for the whole band.
The second set is the stuff of legends with a rhythmically-innovative "It's Up to You," one of the best single songs you'll ever hear from Zero - "Love Gets Slippery" (only time played?) and a cosmic juggernaut of a "Gregg's Eggs."
Thanks so much to Kent Tomita and the late Pat Cooper for taping this, Matt Berman for caring for it and releasing it, Dr. Bob for tracking it down and Charlie for doing the rest.
